Back pain, particularly lower back pain, is one of the most frequent conditions presented by patients at our state-of-the-art physical rehabilitation facility in NYC.  Caused by a pinched nerve in the lower back area, sciatica is an extremely common condition that affects the sciatic nerve and causes pain to extend from the lower back down the buttock and leg.  Pinched nerves in the lower back are the result of disc herniation or subluxation in that area.

Any excess weight that is placed on a nerve has the potential to cause discomfort, pain, and ultimately loss of function and mobility, as well as permanent nerve damage, if not promptly treated.  Because the sciatic nerve (the largest in the body) originates at the lower back and extends down each leg, the pain caused by nerve impingement can be severe and limit the patient’s ability to walk and perform daily activities.  Bulging discs, herniated discs, degenerating discs, spinal stenosis, and other spinal or joint dysfunction can place massive amounts of pressure on the sciatic nerve and cause extreme lower back pain.

Sciatica presents itself as a combination of symptoms, which include lower back pain (can be sharp, dull, shooting), numbness or tingling along the leg, in addition to muscular stiffness, weakness, and spasms.  These symptoms will progressively worsen if the pressure isn’t removed from the nerve.  Although pain medication can provide temporary relief, it is not a cure since the nerve will continue to be impinged unless the existing spinal dysfunction is corrected.

The team oriented, integrated treatment approach centers on identifying and correcting the root cause of pain, which will provide long-term results without negative side effects or potential health risks.  Each case is different, which means each patient receives an individualized treatment program to obtain the best results possible.  Effective treatment of sciatica and lower back pain aims to reduce nerve inflammation and correct spinal dysfunction in order to naturally eliminate pain by restoring balance in the body and stimulating its ability to self-heal.

Living well Medical's state of the art practice has the latest technology in diagnostic and treatment for lower back pain, sciatica, and pinched nerves.  Patients who experience lower back pain, sciatica or pinched nerves in NYC are encouraged to contact Living Well Medical for additional information or to schedule a consultation to eliminate lower back pain.
