kinesio taping to prevent athletic injury in New York City, Soho, Noho chiropractor and sports therapy NYC

Kinesio Taping to Prevent Sports Injuries NYC

Kinesiology Taping is a revolutionary method for the treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and chronic pain syndromes. It is often referred to as Kinesio Taping

Kinesio Taping provides therapeutic support while maintaining full range of motion. This powerful healing technique allows weekend warriors, recreational athletes, and professional athletes to continue to train and compete, even while they're recovering from an injury.

Kinesio Taping was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase more than 25 years ago in Japan. The method achieved worldwide fame during the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. An audience of billions watched as world-class athletes such as Kerri Walsh competed while wearing the revolutionary Kinesio Taping for muscular support.

Kerri Walsh and her teammate, Misti May-Treanor, won their second consecutive Olympic Gold medal in women's beach volleyball at the 2008 Summer Games.

Following its huge success at the 2008 Summer Olympics, Kinesio Taping has been featured on national TV stations including NBC and MSNBC, as well as in international print media including Sports Illustrated, Men's Health, Popular Science, and Runner's World

Kinesio Tapiing's revolutionary method provides muscle support while still maintaining full range of motion, allowing an athlete to continue to train and compete while preventing sports injuries. Traditional taping attempts to limit range of motion, which necessarily limits an athlete's ability to continue their regular routine. Kinesio Taping is effective, safe, and easy to use, allowing the individual to receive the therapeutic benefits 24 hours a day. With Kinesio Taping, there's no need for complicated, restrictive taping that needs to be retaped several times a day.

  • Lower back strains and sprains
  • Herniated discs
  • Whiplash injuries
  • Ankle sprains
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Knee injuries
  • Chronic knee pain
  • Patellar tracking disorders
  • Hamstring strains
  • Groin injuries
  • Rotator cuff injuries
  • Chronic shoulder pain
  • Tennis elbow
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • And more . . .

The therapeutic benefits of Kineso Taping are due to its muscular stabilization and support and to its stimulation of subcutaneous blood flow and lymphatic drainage. Kinesio Taping relieves pain by alleviating pressure and irritation on nerve fibers and pain receptors. The method promotes healing by its direct beneficial action on muscle and circulatory physiology. Kinesio Taping is a totally new approach to treating muscles, nerves, and lymphatic drainage.

Kinesio Taping is also used for preventive maintenance, edema, and pain management. Kinesio Taping is used in treatment of acute injuries, injury rehabilitation, and as a stabilization technique during athletic competitions and sports.

We use RockTape, SpiderTech, and Kinesio tex brands of tape, and also have these brands available for sale.

How Kinesio Taping Works

To ensure the muscles have free range of motion, Kinesio Taping uses elastic tape with an elasticity of 130-140% of its original length. This specific elasticity also prevents overstretching of the muscles. KinesioTaping may look like conventional athletic taping, but it is fundamentally different. Kinesio Taping is based on a different philosophy - providing full range of motion in order to allow the body's muscular system to heal itself biomechanically.

Kinesio Taping alleviates pain, improves circulation, and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. The taped portion forms convolutions in the skin, thus increasing interstitial space [the space between the cells]. The result is that pressure and irritation are taken off the neural and sensory receptors, alleviating pain. Pressure is gradually taken off the lymphatic vessels, allowing lymphatic fluid to drain more freely - removing toxic metabolic end-products and irritants which cause pain and inflammation.

Tape can be applied as a single strip I, or in the shape of an X or Y, depending on the shape and size of the targeted muscle(s). The basic principle of therapeutic taping is to wrap the tape around the affected muscle(s). Start from where the muscle begins [ORIGIN], follow the muscle length, and continue to where the muscle ends. This particular taping method is typically used for support. As the muscle fibers contract, Kinesio Taping provides support by stimulating the skin and pulling the muscle back toward the point of origin.

Our chiropractors and physical therapists are Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioners. Dr. Shoshany has been using the Kinesio Taping method for more than five years. He includes Kinesio Taping with other cutting-edge rehabilitation technologies such as Spinal Decompression, Graston Technique, and Cold Laser Therapy, providing Living Well Medical patients with a full range of rehabilitation and pain management protocols. Patient Testimonial

They're funny, smart, and professional. I actually found his office through Google reviews when I had some back issues after my move to NYC, and am incredibly grateful I did. I can't recommend Dr. Sho and his team enough.
